Botox Injection Technique

articles Aug 25, 2025

The Botox injection technique is one of the most common and popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures for the face. It is widely used as an effective solution for reducing wrinkles and signs of aging.

How Botox Works

When injected into the skin, Botox blocks nerve signals from reaching the muscles. This reduces muscle activity and causes the muscles to relax significantly, leading to a smoother appearance and fewer visible wrinkles. As a result, the face looks more relaxed and youthful.

Common Areas for Botox Injections

  • Forehead
  • Between the eyebrows
  • Around the eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Around the mouth
  • Nose area
  • Neck

How Botox is Prepared and Administered

The Botox solution is prepared by diluting the active substance in sodium chloride (saline). It is then injected precisely under the skin using a very fine needle. The effects usually begin to appear after 14 days of the procedure.

Botox can be injected at any age, but it is strictly not recommended for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Individuals allergic to Botox or any of its components
  • People with neuromuscular disorders

A skin sensitivity test is advised before beginning treatment.

Duration of Results

The effects of Botox typically last up to 4 months, but this varies based on:

  • Age
  • Skin care routine
  • Hydration levels
  • Overall health and nutrition

Procedure and Aftercare

  • Performed by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon
  • Done under local anesthesia (usually with a numbing cream), or sometimes without any anesthesia
  • Patient remains seated during the procedure
  • A very fine needle is used to inject Botox into the targeted muscles

Post-injection instructions:

  • Move the facial muscles for at least 3 minutes immediately after the procedure
  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area to prevent Botox from spreading to unintended muscles
  • Do not lie down for at least 2 hours after the procedure
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, swimming, or sleeping on the sides of your head for at least 3 days post-injection

These guidelines help ensure optimal results and reduce the risk of side effects or uneven distribution.
